Adapting to change has been a huge challenge this past year. Being a graduate, fresh out of university, I am pretty used to it. I have always found that resilience is a skill that can’t be taught, but as you adapt and grow, you learn to build it up. Along with a passion for business, I also enjoy music and boxing; both of which have also allowed me to develop my creativity and build on my resilience.
After a challenging 3 years, I came to the end of my BA in Business Management with Solent University. During my degree, I worked as a part-time home guide for Leaders Letting Agency. This was mainly due to my vast experience in working within the property market due to the fact that my Dad owned an estate agency for 8 years.
Since I was 15, I worked on phones and learned a lot about business in a customer-facing industry. As soon as I passed my driving test, I would help conduct Saturday morning viewings which I believe was one of the main catalysts in me becoming an excellent salesman.
Two weeks before me completing my degree, I had been offered the opportunity to apply for Giganet.
After three interviews and three job offers from other companies, I was ready for a new challenge and wanted to explore a new horizon.
I was a little conflicted at first, but the scope of progression that was offered, along with some positive advice from a family member that also worked at Giganet – it was a no-brainer.
A very inspiring conversation with Neil, our Head of Sales, and Mel, our Sales Manager, brought light to an industry that I had never even considered or thought about… The complex world of the internet!
I always look to expand my knowledge and skills and Giganet has allowed me to do just that!
On my first day, Neil took me through the way internet connectivity works. It blew my mind! I was informed on how connectivity and connection work and shown various complex diagrams – it looked like the Matrix code to me!
At first, I thought “what have I got myself into!?” Then I remembered something my Dad always says to me “if it was easy, then everyone would be doing it”. I knew that exploring a new industry and job would be a challenge, and now I was ready to face it head-on.
I am now three months into my journey with Giganet, and time has flown by. I am part of an amazing and supportive team within my department, who help me whenever I have questions and are never hesitant to lend a helping hand. The company feels like a family, and there is a very big emphasis on working together as a team and being a strong unit.
I would be lying if I told you that it is “easy work” or that I have learned absolutely everything within three months. It is a challenge but I believe it is one that which will help anyone adapt into a very confident and knowledgeable individual.
I look forward to what this journey at Giganet brings next!
